About

A cascade of serious life events led to the creation of Tuaya
‘A few years after I left my Blue-Chip career, I had set up my own business (#Robinson Consultants), as an independent consultant and coach. Life was good, I had two kids and I successfully integrated my personal and professional life.
A few years later, I felt as though I had been carried out to sea, into the darkness of a perpetual storm, smashed against jagged rocks and left in pieces……
Out of the blue, I collapsed with inexplicable heart failure
My father died, one of those slow lingering painful deaths
Months later, my eldest son became chronically ill, he has not yet recovered
Fourteen months after my father, my heartbroken mother lost her footing, and died
A year later, I was diagnosed with breast cancer
A year after that, with blood cancer
Both cancers were detected early and successfully treated.
…….I had no idea how to put myself back together,
or how to navigate to safer waters.
I tried many kinds of therapy, perhaps they were beneficial.
Ultimately, it was coaching that helped me
- finding a coach I respected
- committing to myself as a client
- I found a way forward
- to survive intact
to be joyful and healthy again!

We work with metaphor – why?
On average, we use six metaphors a minute, in everyday speech in the English language. We are often unaware we are using them.
Our specific metaphors are unique to each of us.
Our metaphors are the language of our subconscious minds and our bodies.
We can find out more about them using, apparently simple, ‘clean questions’.
This gives us new information and a new perspective
We can explore the way we perceive things, and the patterns in our system
Changes tend to happen naturally, in a way uniquely aligned to each person
The Background
In the 1980s, New Zealand psychotherapist, David Grove, noticed that his clients often described their traumatic memories using metaphors. When he asked questions about their metaphors, without contaminating or distorting them, it helped them to change their perception of the trauma and to heal.
Penny Tompkins and James Lawley spent hours observing David Grove. They developed a model of his work and called it Symbolic Modelling. This model is used to teach the techniques to others and to allow the principles to be used in different contexts, such as coaching. The type of questions used by David Grove are known as clean questions, coaching using these techniques is often referred to as clean coaching.

We use Soul-based Coaching
Soul refers to our inner-knowing, or our deepest truth, in this context
Soul-based Coaching was developed by Annemiek van Helsdingen, it is clean coaching – symbolic modelling using clean questions and holding space – plus Yin healing and Presencing.
We use holding space and grounding or meditation practices.
Many clients find these aspects of the sessions hugely rewarding, they can give clients a shortcut to a stronger mind-body connection.
No previous experience or knowledge of meditation is needed.
